The Secret

It was my best friend's deepest, darkest secret and it would be a hard one to keep. Janie and I have been best friends since we were in preschool. We were in the same class until 8th grade. She called me one time, and said that she had something to tell me. But she said she had to tell me in person. I went over to her house, walked in her room, and there she was sitting on the side of her bed. She looked at me and tried to give me a smile. "Hey Pate", She said to me. I have something important to tell you. I knew that look she gave me. Every time she gave me that look, I knew something was definitely wrong. She said, "I have a Brain Tumor. I kept getting a lot of headaches, and my mom took me to the doctor, that's when we found out. I'm going to die Pate. The doctor said I only have 3 months." I didn't know what to say to Janie, everything just froze and I didn't know what to say. I was scared, but I knew that Janie was terrified. She started to cry, and I gave her hug to try to make her feel better. But that only made it worse, she started crying even more. I knew a hug wouldn't make her feel better, nothing will, not in this situation. "You were the first one I told, and I need you to promise me that you won't tell anyone else" Janie said. "I promise" I said. The next day at school, Janie was getting picked on by some bullies. It wasn't the first time she ever got picked on. I used to see kids bullying her almost everyday in school. Of course, I defended her, but she hated when someone helped her out. She wanted to do things on her own. Maybe if I told kids at school her situation, they would go easy on her. She always had problems in her life, and maybe they wouldn't pick on her if they knew what was happening to her. But i couldn't tell anyone, I promised. A few days later, Janie was being bullied once again. Some kid pushed her to the ground, "Give me your lunch money!" He said. I helped her up and angrily I said, "What is wrong with you!, Janie is dying and you treat her like this?!?" That was an accident, I really didn't mean to say that, it just slipped out. "Why would you say that! I told you not to tell anyone!" Janie said. "I'm sorry, Janie. But I can't let them treat you like this!" She walked away from me at a fast pace. The rest of her days, everyone was nice to her. She was very mad at me, I thought she would never forgive me. Until one day I visited her at the hospital, I was told that she had only a few hours left. Before she was gone, she said she forgived me.
